Connemara Under 19’s Begin Their Season With Resounding Win

October 20th, 2013

Connemara Under 19’s begin their season with resounding win

Connemara’s under 19’s began their 2013/14 campaign with a resounding 67-10 victory over Ballina on Sunday afternoon, much to the delight of a strong numbered home crowd.

The game, which was played in pristine conditions, was extremely open as both teams threw caution to the wind and went for the jugular each time they were in possession.

In truth, Ballina, who had to borrow five Connemara players as they were short of numbers, were out of their depth, particularly as several of Connemara’s players, Mark Staunton, TJ Berry, Patrick King and Matthew Gavin, have had experience training with the Senior squad this season; and the nous and fitness gained training with Senior counterparts stood out for all to see.  The aforementioned foursome, along with Thomas Joyce, Conor Clarke, Danny Doyle and John Prendergast threw the ball around with aplomb, running in several tries, many of which Mark Staunton accurately converted.

All in all, coach Nigel Murray will be pleased with his sides performance but will know that tougher challenges lay ahead.
