The Under 13s played Corinthians on Saturday Dec 15th. Once again this match was played at the Clifden GAA field and Connemara RFC are very grateful for this facility. This was a very hard fought game and Corithians went 7 – 0 ahead after 15 minutes. The Connemara boys were not winning enough ball in the rucks but defended every attack from Corinthians. There was a lot of hard talking to the Connemara team at half time but no changes were possible as we only had 15 players on the day. We started the second half with more determination and the forwards began to win more ball and after 10 minutes this paid off with us scoring a try in the corner…..score 7 – 5. Corinthians quickly came back at us and also scored in the corner after some poor tackling by Connemara….12 – 5. The pressure was now on and with 10 minutes left we scored again…. Corinthians 12, Connemara 10. There was still a lot of work to be done and we kept on attacking the Corinthians line but were kept out every time by some great defending. Legs and bodies were getting tired but the will to win was still there and we managed to score twice in the last 5 minutes. Final score Connemara 24, Corinthians 12.
This was another great win for the Under 13s, they have won all their matches so far. But we must get more players out training and especially turn up on match days. If a player is unavailable they should let their coach know as it is unfair to the entire squad otherwise.
I would like to wish all the players and their families a Happy Christmas and I will see you all in 2008.
(S Coyne)

Last Sundays Junior game against Ballinrobe in Ballinrobe fell foul to the weather. The game was called off on Saturday after the heavy rain left the pitch water-logged. That game will now be played next Sunday 16/12/07.

Due to the bad weather over the last two weeks we had to call off the AIL match against Ards on Saturday. After an inspection on Friday morning the pitch was waterlogged and with more heavy rain forecast for Friday night we were left with no choice but to contact Ards before they set out from Belfast. The game has been rearranged for 5th January. It’s a pity the game was called off as we had a full squad to pick from for the first time this season.
Next Saturday we host Corinthians. This is always a big game for both clubs but with plenty of support we hope to get the right result.
