Under 12’s Match Report – 24th November 07
On Saturday last 24/11/07 the under 12’s were hosts to Castlebar and Oughterard. Due to large numbers at the Monastery field the under 12 games had to be played on the GAA field and Connemara RFC are very grateful to Clifden GAA for allowing us to use their facilities.
We had two games on the day, the first was against Oughterard who scored from the first move of the game….before the Connemara boys had stopped talking and settled down. This was a well contested match with both teams very evenly matched. The score at half-time was 1 try to no score in favour of Oughterard. The second half was a different affair with Connemara boys (and one girl) showing more concentration and better skills. Eventually the hard work paid off and they levelled the scores to one try each. Final score Connemara 1 Oughterard 1.
The second game of the day was against Castlebar and again this was a close contest. The Castlebar team had some very fast players but with perfectly executed tackles from the Connemara centres we wore them down. Then after a magnificent break by our prop forward and wonderful support play from the outhalf we crossed their line for the first score. The second half was well contested with a lot of bangs and bruises being delivered and received by both teams. Eventually we scored again after a lovely break from a scrum close to their line. The final score was Connemara 2 Castlebar 0
A lot of tough training nights will have to be put in over the next few weeks as we have some big games coming up.
The Connemara players were: James M. O’Toole, Ryan Hewitt, Alan Conroy, Christopher Joyce, Kevin Ryan, James P. O’Toole, Mark Staunton, Darwyn O’Halloran, Cian Laffey, Jack Moran, Thomas Joyce, Darren Burke, T.J. Berry, Peter Brittain,
John Prendergast who was injured in training the previous came along and was a great help on the touch-line with water bottles and first aid. Emmet Madden was ill on the day but we hope to see him back soon.
TRAINING – WEDNESDAY 6.30.P.M.
